Recommended Route Description

Overview
This walk has been designed as a stroll through mountain and river scenery rather than a lung-busting push for a mountain summit.

The main attractions are two small limestone gorges, carved out by Torrente Rosaro and Acqua Torrado. It's an easy day out, in the foothills of Monte Alto, with an early return to Papavero.

Detail
From the village of Sassalbo locate path 95 heading north-east towards Passo del Cerreto. After 1/3 mile join Torrente Rosaro, heading upstream on its right hand bank.

Follow the Torrente and its limestone gorge for another 500m and then climb gradually out of the gorge, still heading nort-eastwards. After a further 800m reach the Passo Cerreto road and turn left. After 100m turn left again, along the main road, overlooking Lago Lungo. Continue for a further 200m to a right hand hairpin bend.

Turn left here onto a dirt road, initially heading west. The dirt road climbs gradually up the lower slopes of Monte Alto for 1 mile before reaching a crossroads with path 00. During this stretch, the Dirt Road gradually swings from a westerly heading, through north-west, to north.

At the crossroads, turn left onto path 00, heading towards the summit of Monte Alto for 200m, before reaching a signed junction with path 100, which traverses off to the left. This is the high point of the walk.

Turn left onto path 100 which, after a short traverse, descends quite steeply to the south-south-west to reach Acqua Torrada. Cross the Acqua Torrada gorge and continue on path 100 in a southerly direction for another 400m before intersecting path 9 as the stem of a T-junction.

Turn left onto path 9 which takes a westerly loop back over the stream before a gradual descent southwards , following the steam on its left hand bank, back towards Sassalbo.

After ~1 mile path 9 becomes the stem of a T-junction with a narrow road. Turn left along this road for the final 400m, bridging the Torrente Rosaro, into Sassalbo.
