Tuscany Mountain Walking - Walk Grading Systems

Walk Grading System used for Walk Proposals

During research across various guidebooks and maps, 3 different grading systems have been discovered as follows:

      • Bocchi Book
      • Edizioni Multigraphic 25K Walking Map - sheet Ref: 101/102
      • Tuscany North Book

These systems can be approximately mapped against each other as in the table below. Click on the column headings to see the details of any particular grading system.

The Bocchi book and the Multigrahic map systems are very similar although the Bocchi book offers the most comprehensive system on the most difficult routes.

For these reasons the Bocchi system has been used for all routes which feature in the Bocchi book.

Routes not featured in this book have been graded using the Multigraphic map system, provided the relevant paths are represented on this map.

For routes which are not covered by either of these systems, the route author has applied grades based on experience of other routes over similar ground.

Because it fails to differentiate higher grades and because it is so significantly different from the other two systems, the Tuscany North system has not been used at all.
